Green Clean Ingredients: Skincare, Soap & Termite Inspection

Unbeknownst to many, there are simple, natural, and effective methods to keep your home and yourself clean.

FDA-approved clean green beauty, health, and housekeeping products offer major benefits by being biodegradable and non-toxic. While “natural” does not necessarily mean “safe”, plant-based solutions can offer cleaning that is more gentle to the human body while being equally as effective as chemical alternatives.

Skincare

Coconut oil, derived from coconut, is highly effective at melting makeup, including even the most long-wearing eyeliner, mascara, foundation, and lipstick. It may seem counterintuitive to slather oil on your face for cleansing purposes, but coconut oil has a different molecular composition than the oils produced by your skin which cause acne. Moreover, makeup removal should not be the final and last step of your nighttime beauty regimen. Regardless of what makeup remover you use, you should always follow it with a face wash.  “Coconut oil is antibacterial, anti-yeast, and also works as a great first-aid cream. Because of its detergent effect, it also works well as a makeup remover,” says Carl Thornfeldt, MD, founder of Epionce Skincare.

Speaking of coconuts, look for plant-based shampoos and soaps containing sodium cocosulfate instead of sodium laureth sulfate, the latter being a common ingredient used to create cleansing and foaming. It is what forms the bubbly and frothy lather that everyone loves. It emulsifies ingredients, which is what makes it possible for dish soaps to cut through grease stains. However, as a surfactant, it can be quite irritating on your skin.

Laundry & Dishwashing

Vinegar and baking soda result in a fizzing chemical reaction when mixed together, loosening stains and removing grease. The acidity of the vinegar and the alkalinity of baking soda can easily dissolve set stains on your clothes or dishes.

Lemon juice has a brightening effect on clothes, without involving any actual bleach. Combined with salt, lemon juice can remove protein stains like blood.

With just half a cup of water and the juice of half a lemon in a microwave-safe bowl, microwave residue can be easily removed. Simply microwave the mixture for 3 minutes, let the steam remain inside for a few more minutes, and then wipe away the inside. No hard scrubbing is necessary.

Pest Control

Orange oil is an essential oil with an invigorating scent and powerful exterminating abilities. The compound d-limonene dissolves the exoskeleton of termites. Performing extermination with orange oil should be done by a professional Exterminator, in order to ensure the best results.

Since termites cause billions of dollars of damage to homes every year across the United States, it can be argued that the cost of repair is not only financial but also environmental. Repairing or replacing wood that has been damaged by termites requires environmental resources. Therefore, it can also be argued that prevention or early detection is one of the best ways to avoid the negative environmental impact that termite damage has.

We recommend Natural Science Exterminating for their termite inspection and extermination services. You can give them a call today.
